Not every mama wants something on Mother’s Day. Plenty of mamas are very happy with just a phone call, a handmade card or a contribution in her name to a decent cause. For that latter group, TreePeople is a great dot-org that does some good in the actual US of A.

Since a group of teens founded the not-for-profit thirty years ago, they’ve helped to green up the L.A. landscape with more than 2 million trees (!!!) and if you’ve ever caught the wildfires or recent Griffith Park fires on TV, you know what a big deal that can be. Now they’ve got an entire Mother’s Day Tree Dedication program and for just a $25 donation, you can have a tree planted in your favorite mama’s name, announced on a card of your choice.

The donation funds efforts like a comprehensive environmental education programs (more than 20,000 students participate) and government outreach to help keep water clean and yummy. And you get a tax deduction.

Rainforests are important. But urban forests need love too. And so does your mama. –Liz

Psst… they TreePeople also does a super cool Newborn Gift set with shop Burgundy & Blue including a handmade gift box, onesie, and a certificate of a tree planted in the name of the baby.
