It’s our new June tradition for the last several years: Warm weather hits, we’re here with recommendations for very cute, decidedly non-hoochie two-piece swimsuits for girls. In other words, no high cut leopard bikinis (oy), no padded bras (heaven forbid), no appliques that spell out “I’m a heartbreaker” in purple sequins, and definitely no thongs (kill me). Just cute, on-trend two-piece suits in stripes, florals and solids that let little girls just be little girls–as long as we can manage to keep it that way.

This tankini for girls at Mini Boden comes in three totally fun patterns. So fun in fact, that stock is running low–make sure they have your size for both the top and the bottom which are sold separately. ($25.50 together, on sale)
The tankinis are always adorable at Tea Collection and they last–we own a couple and my girls love them even the second kid around. Even better, they just went on sale up to 50% off. Hurry and grab the lime green Saduu Floral Tankini ($34.95). the Ocean Flower Tankini ($22.95), and Seaside Tile Tankini ($22.95, also shown at very top) while they still have them in your size.
Loved this suit last year and so glad it’s back again on sale: This Hibiscus 2-piece swimsuit for girls at Polarn O. Pyret. ($11.80 on sale; also available in sizes 6-12 and under 6)
The sporty stripe bikini set from Land’s End comes in 4-16 and while the style is cute for all girls, the lining makes it a smart choice for girls starting to develop. The UPF 50 fabric adds some extra reassurance I like too. By the way, there’s also a bright purple and white striped version, for girls you just can’t coax into neutrals. ($17.99 on sale)
A simple, solid swimsuit gets frilly and fun with one asymmetrical ruffle in this ruffle tankini set at J Crew. Comes in four really beautiful colors. ($55)
Fabulous deal: A 3 piece set at Target that includes a tankini and a bandeau top so she can get a little more or a little less coverage–or wear one top while the other is drying. Great colorblocking too. ($18.99)
For girls 8-10 who want something a little sophisticated, I think this Splendid two-piece swimsuit is…splendid. I’d wear it myself if I could fit in it. ($74, Nordstrom)
All the swimwear at Hanna Andersson is 25% off right now, including cute pieces like this sunflower tankini ($16.50) and swim skirt ($22.50) which I got for my daughter in blue earlier this year and it’s her absolute favorite. (And of course it goes on sale a few months later. D’oh.) I would have thought that the skirted bottom was for uh…those of us who are a bit older. But my nine-year-old says it’s her favorite part.
Their Swede Tankini set for girls is pretty adorable too, and I’m really digging the mix and match patterns of the navy and white which keeps it from feeling too conservative. ($39/set)
Old Navy always has great deals on swimsuits and everything’s on sale right now until 6/12. I know my girls would love this vibrantly striped girls tankini with a subtle hint of gold between the stripes. It’s sold out in the smaller sizes but you may be able to find it in stores near you. ($16 online for a limited time)
Whenever I shop for my tween daughter for summer swim suits, I end up having to bypass most of the styles due to the fact that they just aren’t made with little girls (and their bodies) in mind. Thank you so much for these cute bathing suits. My daughter likes the Sunflower tankini and swimskirt.
Adorable! Hurray for age appropriate! Garnet Hill Kids has great patterns too and on sale now.
Adorable! I love the apple pattern in the top suit.
My 5 year old daughter picked out a super-cute swim skirt and t-shirt style swim top at REI this year. I never would have thought of them as a kids swimsuit destination, but the suit is modern looking, age appropriate, and she loves it.
I love that suit from J.Crew. I’ve had great luck with MiniBoden suits lasting through many, many summers!
