When cool dad and author Mike Adamickโs new Dadโs Book of Awesome Science Experiments (phew!) arrived at our door, my oldest daughter screamed with delight and I havenโt seen the book since. Whether youโre looking to get your kids more excited about science or are just looking for some weekend rainy-day activities, this is the book for you. And your screaming kids.
Similar to Adamickโs first book Dadโs Book of Awesome Projects which helps bring more dads into the crafting fray with their kids, this sequel is chock full of fun activities for parents (of any sex) and kids, though this time with a science-y twist.
Itโs all categorized by interest, like biology, chemistry, and planet earth, and each experiment is easy to follow with the help of photos, an explanation of why it works, and a few fun facts. Though what I like best are the ways to expand your kidsโ knowledge on the subject beyond the basic experiment.
Because as we all know, once kids get hooked on something, theyโre definitely hungry for more.
There are definitely a few experiments in the book that Iโve seen before, but with 30 total, the majority of them are new to me and my kids, which is no small feat these days.

Iโll be honest, I want to hide a lot of science experiment books weโve owned because, oh, my the messes. Maybe thatโs awful, but we donโt have a giant science lab in a shed or something where the kids can go nuts. If youโre like me, youโll be glad that Adamickโs book offers plenty of experiments that wonโt wreak major havoc in your kitchen.
And I really appreciate that older kids can do plenty of them on their very own, with permission from their parents. And a promise to clean up afterwards.
You can purchase Dadโs Book of Awesome Science Experiments: From Boiling Ice and Exploding Soap to Erupting Volcanoes and Launching Rockets, 30 Inventive Experiments to Excite the Whole Family! by Mike Adamick at our affiliate Amazon, or from your local indie bookseller.
