I’ll admit that I was skeptical at first of a company with a nonsensical name like Meow Meow Tweet natural skin care products, but I’ve been quickly won over by their hand-crafted products. The small-batch skin care company makes everything in Brooklyn using only organic ingredients, like raw plant oils and cold-pressed essential oils, and all of their products are preservative-free, vegan, and certified cruelty-free.
And the packaging!
I’m a sucker for lotions and potions in glass bottles. Besides being better for the environment than plastic, they just look so fancy on my bathroom counter — if out of reach of the kiddos, of course. While lots of natural beauty products have packaging that looks just as homemade (not in a good way), these colorful labels feature whimsical animal illustrations that are definitely more hipster-chic than cutesy. And the soaps come hand wrapped in patterned PCW papers that are almost too pretty to tear open.
No wonder they’ve been making the pages of Vogue and Elle.

So how do they work? Of the Meow Meow Tweet skin care products I had the opportunity to try, I really like the Face Cleanser ($25), a sort of oil-milk cleanser hybrid that passes my eye-makeup removal test. It did leave my skin feeling greasier than my normal face wash, so I tried skipping moisturizer. Don’t do that. The oily finish eventually gets absorbed into the skin, so you still need to use a moisturizer or face oil afterward.
I admit that I wasn’t crazy about cleanser’s earthy fragrance, but Meow Meow Tweet’s website indicates they’ve recently tweaked its essential oil blend to make it more citrusy. I imagine I had received an older batch.
Two other products I enjoyed were the Body Oil ($22) in lavender lemongrass (now that’s a lovely fresh scent!) and the Deodorant Cream ($14) in lavender. It’s important to note that the natural underarm cream is not an antiperspirant, although it does contain baking soda, arrowroot, and clay to help keep your pits dry naturally. To my surprise, it did a pretty decent job, but I am someone who does more than just “glow” in the summertime, so I’ll probably go back to my traditional antiperspirant/deodorant when the weather gets warmer.
I still want to try Meow Meow Tweet’s Salt Scrub, Spot Serum, and their Organic Soap. The Cinnamon Coffee Bar Soap and Grapefruit Mint Bar Soap both sound like they’d do a mighty fine job of waking me up during my morning shower — and I could use all the help I can get.
Growing up, I showered my mom with scented lotions and coordinating skin care products from our mall’s bath and body stores for holidays, her birthday, and special occasions. If I had to do it all over, I’d skip the highly perfumed, mass produced stuff and treat her to this.
