With the massive morning sickness-turned awful reflux that I’ve experienced for the last 6 months, I have gone from yoga enthusiast to…well let’s just say a deep forward bend brings with it more than limber muscles (like my breakfast, for instance). Needless to say, I’ve been dying to get back to my practice as soon as my baby is born.
Lucky for me that I received a copy of Mommy Yoga: The 50 Stretches of Motherhood by humorist Julie Tilsner. This delightful little book is an ideal gift for the expecting yogini in your life, merging the vernacular of yoga with 50 funny (or sad?) experiences of mothering. Like the Slop Pose, in which the Mommy is instructed to “move into a forward bend and make large wiping motions until all lunch is cleaned up.” Sound familiar?
Now all I have to worry about is that one ‘stretch of motherhood’ that they don’t cover in the book—that one that happens right there in the delivery room. OMMMMM. –Tina
