I love the idea of snatching up a Molskine for Father’s Day. The little pocket journals famous for having been used by the likes of Picasso and Hemingway are just perfect for dads and granddads with a lot on their minds – whether they’re writers, comedians, architects or just really really anal grocery shoppers.

If you want to take it up a notch, we’ve just been turned onto custom laser-engraved Moleskines from EngraveYourBook.com. Send over a pic that would look great as a b&w photocopy, and the artists at the company will get it onto a custom notebook at super reasonable prices. Love the idea of uploading a graphic photo of the kids, a team logo, or even a label from his favorite bottle of wine.

I’m thinking about a map of the city where we, um, sealed the deal that made us parents in the first place.

It’s a bit late to make Father’s Day now (turnaround is a week at best) but heck, if this is the gift you’ve been looking for all your life, get it anyway and blame the post office. I would. –Liz
