As you might already know if you read our site regularly, we’re suckers for social media ads, which is why you see our reviews of everything from THINX period underwear to Color WOW Dream Coat anti-frizz hair treatment.
These ads pop up in our social feeds, and we buy them — then review them! That way you get the reap the benefits of our trials and sometimes errors, because we share the honest scoop on these popular products.
So this is the first in a series called Damn You, Social Media Ads.
First up, the True & Co. True Body Bra (formerly, the Second Skin Bra). I mean, when they bill it as “The most comfortable bra you’ll ever wear,” you know I’m at least going to click. And then, with a decent price point and so many positive reviews –including one from our own Editor Liz who loves the True & Co True Body Lift Scoop Bra for more support without the wires — I figured it was worth a try.
Because even with some of my favorite bras have straps that slide off my shoulders constantly; by the end of the day, I’m ready to whip it off and strangle the bra maker with it.

What I thought of the True & Co. Bra
Now you should know right off the bat that this is not the sexiest bra on the planet. In fact, it might be the complete opposite — just ask my boyfriend who saw it in the package and asked if it was a new straitjacket.
But when you put it on over your head, you can see why they call it the most comfortable ever.
Because, it is. It really is.
I have no idea how her boobs look so perky in this bra. Or how her stomach looks so flat. Oh wait.
It’s made from a thin, nylon material, and the straps are thick and comfortable (think tank top). I ordered the True & Co scoop neck in a large — though they now offer band and cup sizes. (I’m a 36–38 B/C depending on the time of the month). While I like the lack of back hooks or an underwire (down with red underboss!), if you’re larger than a C, I think you would not like the level of support. In that case, you’d definitely need the bra with offers more lift so you can get the same comfort but with more support.
Also, if you’re going out on the town, or you’re wearing a bit of a revealing shirt, this is not the bra for you. Which is probably why they’ve since added so many styles to the True & Co collection, including v-neck bras and even push-up bras.
Don’t get me wrong — the original scoop neck it looks great under t-shirts that have higher cut necklines, but it doesn’t give you any sort of boost whatsoever. It’s possible that I might have had more support if I had ordered a size down.

Bottom line on the True & Co Bras
I could live in this damn thing and well, honestly, I have. Yep, I’ve even slept in it. That definitely says something — about the bra and also about how lazy I am.
While I don’t think it will serve my larger-chested friends very well, if you’re under a C cup and want something so comfortable you can wear around the house, or even to work under a sweater, I think you will be very pleased with this bra.Otherwise, look at the other True & Co bras. Since they first launched, they have added a LOT of styles.

I LOVE this idea for a column! So clever!
Best new column idea. And thanks for the honesty. I have been staring at those ads on Pinterest…
I love this idea. I am SUCH a sucker for those ads. Great review too. I’ve clicked on a few bra ones that were a let down because I’m too big for them.
Great idea. I’m one of those with larger boobs (42C) and I use this bra and others like it for comfort and to sleep in at night. Sleeping bras are really excellent for long term support. At 75, I can go without a bra for short periods and look like I still have a shape.
I liked this bra a lot but it fell apart after only one time in dryer on low. I had worn it maybe five times. When I wrote to the company they told me they could not replace it because bras can be expected to last only six months. She also told me it should not go in the dryer but those were the instructions printed on the bra! Very disappointing.

That’s such a bummer, J.
We have never heard of a bra that’s machine wash or dryer recommended…so looked we at their FAQ https://trueco.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217514418-How-do-I-care-for-my-bras-
It says that you should hand wash bras, and “avoid the dryer at all costs.” (You’re positive it says to machine dry on the label?)
It also says: “Most bras will only last 6-12 months (depending on how frequently they are worn and how they are cared for). After that time, the fabric tends to stretch out.”
That’s our experience as well. We’re sorry — that really is unfortunate. -Eds.
Yes, I am 100% sure it says tumble dry low on the bra itself and I only put it in the dryer once. One side seam is entirely open after that. It was really poorly made. It seems to have been held together with some kind of weak glue.
I had the same experience. The bras (I bought two) were so comfortable, until they fell apart within 6 months.
The label does say they can be dried in the dryer, however, I ALWAYS washed mine on gentle cycle and hung them to dry – they were never in the dryer. I’m so disappointed, and will never order them again, no matter how comfortable.
Thanks for your feedback! They’re out with a new bra and I just ordered it to try for myself. I wonder if there have been any improvements — I will let you know, good or bad.
Thank you ladies for these reviews. I was considering trying one but now I am sure I will not. First of all I will never wash anything by hand. The wash boards and tubs went out years ago. We have machines that tumble and have extra delicate wash cycles. I always hang my bras to dry but what if it accidentally was placed in a dryer. A $50+ bra should be better quality than that. And the sizing is not going to fit everyone. It seems very hyped and over priced. No way I would do business with a company that does not stand behind its product. I have bras that are years old and still good. Thanks for saving me from making this mistake.
Everyone has their own preferences and requirements, so I understand. Glad the review helped you. FWIW, I just purchased another one for review, to see how the larger size holds up — and I’m so happy with it. To each her own!
I’ve had my 4 True bras for about 1.5 years. I wash and dry them in the machines and they still work great! Maybe a little looser than they were, but have not fallen apart. Super comfortable.
Thanks for the article! Does the bra create a uniboob? The ad states “molded cups”, but the photos look like it goes straight across creating the uniboob look. I’m a 36 b/c and really want something comfortable for traveling this summer.
In my experience, no — no uniboob. It doesn’t separate though, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Yes Uniboob for me.
Thanks for the reviews. I was going to buy this bra although I think it is expensive, but I agree with the reader who commented that today we have washers and dryers with gentle cycles for a reason. I’m a nurse practitioner and have no time for stuff that can’t go in my washer/dryer. Also it gets things cleaner than hand washing, and
EVERYTHING I wear to the hospital goes right into the laundry when I get home. I want that stuff really clean! Now, I will save money and not buy these bras. Thanks for saving me from an expensive mistake.
I just wanted to put in my two cents about washing these bras. I have been wearing my True Body V-Neck and True Body Triangle for almost six months and the V-Neck does say you can put it in the dryer, while the Triangle says hand wash. I didn’t read that carefully and have been washing and drying them both with all of my clothes this whole time and I really like the way they hold up. I just take out the pads and throw them in, and I just wash on cold and dry on low. I love these bras and I just got the True Body Lift Scoop Neck and I like it even more than my first two. Hope this helps.
I bought one, welp. I guess I have a new sleep bra. Uniboob, shapeless and one of the seams is digging into my armpit.
