You will not be seeing me in a romper… this summer. I mean, I have learned never to say never (see also my snark about skinny jeans in the early CMP days, ha), but until I’m size supermodel (hahahaha hahaaha haaaaa!!) I will happily leave the rompers as the purview of my daughters.

Turns out there are so many cute girls’ rompers for spring and summer right now that are just so playful and fun and everything warm-weather clothes should be when you’re playground-age. So I hope my 5 picks for spring and summer help you find something cool, in all senses of the word.

Just be sure your girls are old enough not to need quick diaper changes anymore because been there, regretted that.

Tea Collection's smocked romper for girls is inspired by the shapes of the Sydney Opera House

Tea Collection is out with this fun, modern girls’ romper inspired by, of all things, the shapes of the Sydney Opera House. While I don’t tend to gravitate to pastels, I like how the blockiness of the print and the chunks of charcoal grey balance it out to keep it from looking too precious for my older girls.

Floral romper for girls at J Crew: So so cute! And on sale!

For another option with a bold print, I am so taken with this girls’ floral romper at J Crew. Now it’s spendy for sure, but the drape of the fabric and longer knee-length short means it can be dressed up easily. Great option for those of you with girls who aren’t so big on skirts.

Plus if you grab it now (hurry!) it’s 25% off with code HOPTOIT. Thank you, Easter bunny!

Appaman batik girls' romper for spring/summer 17

This Thai-inspired batik girls’ romper from one of the original cool indie kids’ labels, Appaman, is just so so adorable. I will say that overall their boys’ collection is stronger than girls this season, but they happened to send this one over for us to check out and I’m really impressed. Plus the fabric is so silky, stretchy and soft, I almost wish I could pull it off. Almost.

Girls chambray romper on sale from the J Crew Factory Store

Here’s a steal: I spotted this girls chambray romper at J Crew Factory and it is so great looking! Sleek enough for dressier occasions but still cool with a pair of Chuck Taylors. It looks gray, but the color is described as a medium blue chambray so assume it’s…well, blue.

Nununu's take on a romper: The edgy one-piece overall for kids in charcoal or black

Nununu remains my favorite edgy indie brand for kids — especially my picky tweens — and if you want their fashion-forward take on a romper, check out their 3/4 girls’ overall in charcoal or black.  I love that they push me a bit. I mean, this is definitely not a traditional rompers. But I bet it’s as mindblowingly cool looking and well-tailored in person as other items of theirs. In fact, take a look at all their overalls. Wow.
