Last week, Elle magazine reported that the hottest accessory new stealing the show at NY Fashion week was barrettes…for adults. And despite some of the totally bizarre fashion trends we’ve seen lately, this is one we can totally get behind. Because, anyone can pull these looks off.
So, we’ve taken a look around to find some of our own favorite cool barrettes for adults, from playful to sophisticated, because this is one easy and affordable trend for us to jump on.

This simple Atelier barrette by L. Erickson is the minimalist statement piece you need in your jewelry box. You can dress it up or down, and it will go with pretty much anything in your closet. They have a few colors, so pick the one that works best with your wardrobe.
This trendy Balboa barrette set at Urban Outfitters is a great value, which will come in handy when your teens try to steal these from you.
I think this iridescent bow barrette by Cara is a fun accent to jeans and a black jacket for a girls night out…or a mother-daughter trip to the nail salon. It just makes me smile.

There are lots of word barrettes available right now, but this Feelings barrette by Kitsch x Justine Marjan is one of my favorites. It works for any mood, and is a fun touch of bling to add to any outfit.
This Margot hair clip at Urban Outfitters looks gorgeous over a loose ponytail, with your hair half up, or even just on the side. It’s big (nearly 5-inches in diameter), but there’s a mini version available too. It might be the better choice if you have thin hair.
If you’re looking for a splurge, the tapered Swarovski crystal barrette by Lelet NY is stunning. I’d save this one for a fancy night out. Wouldn’t it be flawless with a little black dress?
