Today, we got this comment from reader Katie, who’s looking for shirts that celebrate the power of women and girls in sports.
She wrote (lightly edited for clarity): My nephew, father of two young boys and a young daughter went on Facebook today showing the sports t-shirts he’d bought for his boys. His daughter was in the photo but without a new tee. I’m incensed! I now MUST find her SEVERAL tees to make up for it. With the Olympics going on, I know here are wonderful young women athletes to celebrate — help me find female athletes!
Katie: I’ve got you! Here are a few shirts celebrating women’s achievements in sports, honoring some of the women icons in various sports, and overall celebrating the joy and power of athletic women and girls. I don’t know your grandniece’s age, so I’m sharing options in youth, juniors, and small women’s or unisex sizes. (My girls like ’em oversized!)
Just note that these are all shirts supporting women, not excluding other athletes or putting anyone else down. No need to go there.

Shirts for Girls Celebrating Women in Sports
Some of these tees are more expensive than others, and are supporting small, women-owned businesses. Others are more affordable from the big shops. Hope you find something perfect for any young sports fan in your life — of any gender TBH.
If you’re going for a truly affordable shirt celebrating women heroes of sports, you can’t beat the classic I Love Simone tee on Amazon in lots of youth sizes and color options. Just $14.99. Because yes, everyone does love Simone. (Even if we also love Sunni, Jordan, Jade, Rebecca…)
Check out the Olympic collection of tees from Shine Threads on TeePublic that let her celebrate her favorites. If she’s Team Suni Lee, Team Simone, Team Gabby Thomas, Team Sha’Carri Richardson, Team Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone…there’s an affordable shirt for her here.
Has she been watching tennis this summer? Is she a Coco Gauff fan? Then this nicely designed Team Coco shirt from woman-owned The Colorful Kind on Etsy is worth checking out. I do have a little bone to pick with Kohl’s — searching for Olympics 2024 tees, results yielded 26 in the “men” and “boys” category, and a mere 5 for “women,” 4 for “juniors, 0 for “girls.” Pro tip: Shop both because aTeam USA Olympic Shirt really knows no gender. I think the 2024 Olympic Women’s Soccer tee is great though (and on clearance!) and I’m kind of obsessed with the USA Olympics Table Tennis shirt, myself. Those mixed doubles were something else!
If women’s basketball is her jam, then this She’s Got Game WNBA fan shirt from designer Jess Yocca on Etsy also comes with the slogan “Play Like a Girl,” in a choice of colors. There are youth sizes too up to 6T, if you’re buying for a tiny person!
I have always adored the “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports” tee from Togethexr, a brand founded by four world-class athletes: Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird. You can find knockoffs cheaper on various sites, but TBH, I feel better supporting the original, even if it means buying fewer t-shirts.
Female Athlete: Judged by Achievements, Not Gender is the original tee from Playa Society, a brand founded by Esther Wallace to promote representation for women in sports. All the designs feature her own artwork and hand-drawn designs. While they’re not super cheap, any purchase here is supporting a wonderful women-owned company and not a knock-off t-shirt shop overseas.
For more specific athletes that a girl may love, browse Playa Society’s collection of WNBA shirts honoring icons like A’Ja Wilson who’s also a 2024 Team USA Olympian, plus Sheryl Swoopes, Skylar Diggins-Smith (above), Caitlin Clark and more.
They also sell fun NCAA collab t-shirts honoring female college hoops stars like Milaysia Fulwiley and Olivia Miles; and USWNT shirts featuring soccer greats like Megan Rapinoe and Crystal Dunn.
If she’s her own hero, Phenomenal Media’s shop offers cool, modern, lightweight youth hoodies with messages like Ambitious and Phenomenal Girl. Maybe even add the Ambitious Girl picture book to go with it. Because we bet she’s going to great things whether she’s on the field, on the court, on the mat, or just out there in the world.
The great news: There are so many incredible women athletes to celebrate these days, there’s no way I could cover all of them. But hopefully you find at least one t-shirt for girls celebrating female athetes and athleticism on this list that feels just right.
