Okay, so we like our funky, toddler-proof melamine dishes as much as the next parent. But with all the heated controversy about plastics these days, we’re slowly inching towards the whittle your own dishes out of wood camp.
Because I suck at whittling, good thing someone else has done it for me. The family-run, eco-conscious artist collective Palumba features this totally gorgeous hand-carved wooden baby spoon and bowl on their etsy shop. The elegant American Black Cherry set has got the same heirloom value as a traditional silver set but it’s far easier to take care of–just get yourself some beeswax. Plus it’s less noisy when it hits the floor. There’s nothing toxic in here, nothing harmful, nothing made in China, nothing splintery…so don’t give it another thought. If we could guarantee the food in the bowl were half as safe as the bowl itself, life would be grand. –Liz
