I popped over to my local lingerie shop to stock up on some new Hanky Panky thongs for fall (What, TMI? We’re all friends here!) and I spotted the new Spanx faux leather leggings on the owner. Instantly I was all What are those fabulous things you are wearing? because they looked amazing on her. Turns out, they looked amazing on me too (if I do say so myself) and well, I’m in love.
I’m probably the last person on earth to learn that Spanx makes leggings, but that’s probably because I’m not really a Spanx wearer, unlike every other woman I know. However they really scored this season in particular with especially stylish looks, so I was more than happy to plunk down a decent chunk of change to get them on my body. Especially considering since I bought them, I pretty much have not taken them off.
The faux leather leggings (at top) are pretty amazing to wear under tunics or long sweaters, or hey, if you’re feeling a little daring, shorter sweaters too. After all, they are Spanx which means they hold you in and lift you up. Hubba hubba. They are a little longer and tighter than the other styles, and do take some time getting on, my friends, but wow, they are comfy once you’re wearing them. And kind of edgy. And while they’re not slouchy yoga pants, you won’t feel like you need to take bathroom breaks so you can pull them down and breathe.
As a very tall girl–I’m almost six-foot–they fit right down to my ankles. Which means if you’re average height, you might find them a wee bit long. Not to worry though, because our editor Liz loves them too, and says you can scrunch them up a bit or even tuck them into your boots and you’re good to go.
While I didn’t purchase the Spanx denim leggings myself (or the Spanx twill leggings), I now know why they’re so popular. Super versatile that give you a little extra coverage and suck-in-age (is that a word?) is a sweet combination. Considering I’ve been living in my pair for the past few weeks, they’ve earned a permanent place in my wardrobe.
You can purchase the new Spanx faux leather leggings at Nordstrom. Cool Mom Picks is a reward style affiliate.
I’m intrigued. Questions:
1. Do they make you sweat bullets like other leathery pants?
2. Do you need to where a thong with them?
3. Can you hem them?
Hi Vi!
So… no sweating bullets at all because they aren’t really pleather! They’re nylon and spandex. I would probably wear a thong with them BUT, if you’ve got a long shirt or sweater on, I suppose it doesn’t matter. AND… I think because they are nylon and spandex you could hem them but I’m not a seamstress by any means. The lovely shop owner folded them under but mentioned she was going to get them hemmed. Hope that helps!
I love them! But can’t find a description or photo of the waistband? I’ve just had a c-section and need comfy!

Eds: They are Spanx Jeni, so they’re going to hold you in. It’s not like your world’s comfiest stretched out leggings…but they’re definitely company compared with other control garments. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Great review! Thanks! One question though – you mentioned that they give you a little extra coverage… does that mean they are ‘high-waist’? I kinda hate a lot of material around my stomach and am hoping these are low-rise. 🙂
Hi Lisa: They are on the higher side. They hit me right at my belly button, which I actually like because um, well, I’m sure you can guess after lots of babies. I tend to always have to tug at low-rise pants and leggings, so I actually like that they’re that high. I’d try them on because if I remember correctly, they didn’t seem to hit the woman I saw them on as high. Hope that helps! -Kristen
