Each year on Veteran’s Day, we love finding new organizations that support the families of military service men and women. And wow, I am so thrilled to learn about United Through Reading and their 40 Million Stories campaign.
This non-profit gives the more than 100,000 military families deployed each year a chance connect with their kids through storytime, by recording a parent reading a favorite children’s book so kids back home have the ability to view the video over and over.
While donations are welcome, here’s another cool way to support them.
On Veteran’s Day, every purchase from IAmElemental, the action figures depicting amazing females manifesting their own inner powers, will be donated to United Through Reading.
It turns out that creator Julie Kerwin’s grandfather is a WWII vet — a former gunner on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day who served in five other battle under General Patton — and who just celebrated his 95th birthday. (Go Joe!)
In his honor, IAmElemental is not only donating 100% of Veteran’s Day sales on their website to the non-profit, but through all of November, all the profits of their special edition I Am Elemental Activity and Workbook for kids will be sent directly to United Through Reading.
Can you think of a better excuse to stock up on one of our favorite empowered girl gifts for the holidays right now?
The workbook combines their Courage and Wisdom workbooks (normally found only in their Lunchbox Complete Sets) and helps kids explore character-building concepts through coloring, engaging reading, and activities.
It’s even printed by a second-generation veteran-owned business in Pennsylvania.
I think it’s a super cool Hanukkah or Christmas gift on its own, or pair it with the action figures to make them even more meaningful and special.
Because as I Am Elemental puts it, literacy is the ultimate super power. Especially when we give that power to other kids.
