After a few weeks of a ridiculous lack of sleep, I decided it was time to do something about it. And do something I did–with much success–thanks to Bedtiming: The Parent’s Guide to Getting Your child to Sleep at Just the Right Age, an awesome sleep book written by Canadian psychologists and parents Isabela Granic and Mark Lewis.
Instead of offering up yet another sleep training method, this husband and wife team provides an honest analysis of the most popular theories already out there, and more importantly, explains how they may or may not work based on your child’s age and development. So you pick the method that seems right for you and then you’re advised when or when not to implement it, and how to best approach it. Because according to Drs. Granic and Lewis, success has less to do with the method, and much more to do with your kid’s age. Fancy that.
It’s a refreshing take on a tiresome (ha!) subject, and one that really truly works. Granted for us it still involved a few tears, but way less than we had ever experienced when trying it with my other two children–for both theirs and mine. -Kristen
