December is here, and around my house that means the official start of cookie season. If you, like me, end up with piles of snickerdoodles and gingerbread men that you end up off to friends and neighbors (or eating yourself), perhaps you’ll consider hosting a GLAD to Give bake sale instead.
Now, this is not your average bake sale, but rather one that supports Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a charity started by two parents determined to find better treatments for pediatric cancer after their son (the cute guy seen here) was diagnosed in 2007. Since you’re already slaving over the greased cookie sheets, the idea is to turn your baking efforts into an awesome fundraiser.
In fact, if you hold a bake sale before the end of December, GLAD–you know, the plastic bag people–will match all the money raised up to $100,000. Awesome.
Head over to the GLAD to give site to register to host a sale and request your free “Be a Good Cookie” kit. While you’re there, find a slew of great suggestions for your sale (like selling fresh cookie dough instead of cookies – yum!) as well as resources like free downloadable labels and flyers. Really, I can’t think of a nicer way to share the spirit of the holidays. And save yourself a few extra hours on the treadmill come January. -Kristen
