The Smurfs are back! This time, they come to life in a live-action/computer-animated film that hits theaters nationwide on July 29. But it won’t be just your kids who will fall head over heels in love with this take on the popular 1980s cartoon; while they’re discovering The Smurfs for the first time, you’ll be reminiscing about the little blue creatures you already know and love.

In the family-friendly film, a group of Smurfs land in New York City’s Central Park after evil wizard Gargamel and his cat, Azriel, chase them from their magical village and into our world. It’s the perfect opportunity to introduce your kids to the wonder of 3-D.

The Smurfs adventure stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, and Sofia Vergara, along with Hank Azaria as Gargamel. Pop songstress Katy Perry lends her voice to Smurfette-it’s her first foray into film-while the renowned Jonathan Winters brings wizened sage Papa Smurf to life with his distinctive vocal delivery. Will the lost Smurfs make it back to their village before Gargamel catches them? Head to the official movie site then check out The Smurfs with your kids and find out.
