It seems like everywhere I turn there’s a new way to eat kale. From chips to salads, the curly green leaf is easily the roughage du jour. So when Cool Mom Picks skin care fave Eminence Organics introduced me to their two latest products, each featuring kale as the star ingredient, I was interested to discover that it could be healthy for my face as well.

I thought kale was best used in a green juice with pineapple and cucumber, but the new Citrus & Kale Potent C + E Serum changed my mind. I fell in love with the way the super-lightweight serum disappeared into my skin without leaving a greasy oil slick behind. The serum, which also contains broccoli, spinach and avocado (don’t laugh, it’s great) even gives your sunscreen some backup protection; Eminence’s formula uses sodium ascorbyl phosphate, a salt version of vitamin C, that penetrates the skin and provides some serious antioxidant protection.

In case you want to drop it into cocktail party conversation sometime, Kale also happens to contain a whole lot of carotenoids, which are particularly amazing at neutralizing free radicals, a.k.a. pesky cell-destroyers that lead to dreaded wrinkles and force you to start shopping for anti-aging skin care products.

The other new kale addition to their skin care lineup, the Citrus & Kale Potent C + E Masque, is a perfect summer skin care addition. The cooling cream-gel combo is designed to help reduce the appearance of sun damage and provides the same amazing antioxidant protection as the serum. It’s meant to be used a couple times a week, although I know that for busy moms, that’s a commitment.

Personally, I’m planning on chilling out with my green mask on at least once this week–maybe with a bowl of kale chips by my side.
