Decorating the nursery ain’t what it used to be; the lace and bows and safari animals of nursery decor past have made way for emerging indie artists who are creating vibrant, fun, original designs for stylish parents who want more selection. We are are always on the lookout for something new and special, which is just what I found in the whimsical handmade baby bedding and beyond at Madly Wish.

Madly Wish hails from a mother of five who saw that while there was plenty of chic nursery bedding out there, none of it seemed as durable as she wanted. (And clearly with five kids, she’s put her own baby gear to the test.) The result is a fantastic line that includes crib sheets, changing pad covers, and quilts in a fantastic assortments of prints and colors.
Think themes from sweet to hip and ironic, including pretty chevrons and bunnies, to themes like NYC, pandas, and even skateboarding. But even the more modern themes are made with really stunning fabrics; nothing like the “ironic” crib bedding we used to see years ago when bucking the gingham trend with a tattoo print really was an act of rock n roll defiance.
All of the pieces are printed with water-based ink, and stitched with french seams which is more than a nice touch, it’s a smart way to keep fine fabrics from unraveling. Or as she puts it, “so you can wash the heck out of them.” Though she does recommend line-drying, so figure out if you can handle that.
Also consider the prices which are not cheap. You know you’ll need more than crib sheet to rotate. Maybe you get one really special one from here, and one “everyday” set from the typical baby gear discount retailers? That’s your call.
Another option: As a nice feature (or a clever upsell), Madly Wish also offers coordinated mix and match crib bedding in sets the designer has carefully put together. A set can include as few as two changing pads, up to a full set that includes crib sheets, a crib blanket, crib skirt, and a quilt. They’re also spendy so we’re thinking perfect shower gift.
