Unicorns: They exist. On awesome scarves by Snoozer Loser

One of the fun things about curating our own indie shop is the ability to discover and showcase really cool artists and makers that you probably wouldn’t come across unless you’re spending your free weekends browsing funky boutiques in New Paltz or Portland. And yeah, I don’t have too many of those weekends anymore. Our newest addition for you: The hip Brooklyn label Snoozer Loser, which is known for sophisticated prints that are more offbeat than you’d expect on closer inspection. Update: Regretfully, the great.ly shop is no longer in operation. We hope you’ll find other cool stuff you love throughout our site. My top pick is the...

These bags are so clutch

Sometimes I will spring to come through my accessory purchases, and right now, I’m eyeing the colorful new leather clutch bags from local label Campos. While I love the metallics–my go-to when I’m not stocking up on even more black (don’t judge me)–I am actually raising an eyebrow at the pretty lemon yellow, ballet pink, and mint green. I’m thinking this could be the retail version of light therapy that can beat my awful winter ennui that always sets in for me about this time every year. Maybe? Possibly? The small clutch bag is great too, but I really like the large clutch bags, which, at 10-inches...

Mavenhaus Collective: Limited edition women’s fashion that you will want. Warning you now.

I’m not surprised that Mavenhaus Collective instantly turned me into a fan before I was even off the homepage, especially considering it was created in part by our friend, Pinterest tastemaker extraordinaire Traci French of Blissful Blog, along with equally desing-passionate sister, Tara Schlosser. The site features limited-edition designs from amazing designers who specialize in women’s fashion. In other words, if you see something you love, grab it now or forever hold your peace. I could link to my favorite items, but with no more than 50 of each–and often fewer–who knows if they will still be there by the time you get to...

Cool boot socks that make your old Hunter Boots new again.

Who can’t live without their Hunter Boots, raise your hand? (Oh look! It’s my entire Brooklyn Neighborhood!) While they’re not the snowboots that my Sorel boots are, I adore the versatility of my Hunter Boots, which are the perfect wellies in a summer rainstorm; or pop in a pair of fleecy Hunter Boot Socks and make them toasty enough for cold winter morning walks to school. When I first got my own boots, I was sure to grab a pair of the microsoft sock inserts in black. But now it turns out there are so many cool designs, you can pretty much turn...

Snow boots worth the investment: The Sorel Tofino boot

There are a few items worth splurging on in your life, and as I’ve learned the hard way, an awesome pair of warm, sturdy, comfy winter boots is one of them. At least if you’re not in LA where everyone seems to drag out the UGGs in 65-degree weather and complain about the chill. (You only laugh because it’s true.) If I can recommend the best ever pair? The Sorel Women’s Tofino Boot. And truth be told, at $150 they’re not even a huge splurge. After two seasons of adding to cart then never actually buying them, I finally bought my pair during last...

‘Tis the season for snood scarves

Since moving up north after almost ten years enjoying mild southern winters, I have become addicted to chunky scarves, like these snood scarves from IRISMINT on Etsy which I’m pretty sure I’d wear non-stop until spring. Each piece is made completely by hand from natural fibers like merino wool and cashmere (ooh!), in a gorgeous array of colors and patterns. I’m in love with the geometric pattern, which is so on-trend right now, and the herringbone and the ikat are gorgeous, too. All can be worn pulled up, or folded over if you prefer them to be lower on your neck....

Hot bags for a cause from Angela and Roi

I have no specific name brand requirements for the bags that I carry. As long as it’s stylish, functional and well-made, I’m happy. And even happier if it happens to give back to great causes, which is exactly what happens when you buy an Angela & Roi bag. Every single one of these simple yet stylish bags gives back to a charity, with the brand creatively connecting each one’s color to a specific charitable foundation that will receive $5 with your purchase. So a green bag helps support the Anxiety and Depression Society of America. The yellow bags give back to the American Childhood Cancer Association. Red goes towards the fight against HIV and AIDS.  There are 11 colors in all, each dedicated to a particular health-minded charity. What’s so wonderful is that these beautifully-crafted, vegan leather bags are the kinds you’d drool over at your big department store or small neighborhood boutique. Each one has a small embedded stamp or engraved ribbon logo on the outside–though both  are extremely subtle because I’m sensitive to that–and each comes with a special paper tag explaining the charity that’s being supported by your purchase. I know that $5 isn’t a huge amount when you’re talking about a $70 or $100 bag, but it’s a wonderful gesture. And hey, to make this a really special gift, perhaps you pick one for someone already dedicated to that particular charity and include an additional donation in her name. That’s...

It used to be that the idea of designer accessories under $100 was an oxymoron, but these days it’s increasingly not the case. Here, I’ve scoured the web and found ten really hot designer accessories all under $100 that will make perfect holiday gifts for designer-name lovers or equal-opportunity accessorizers like me.     Kate...

Dagne Dover: Hot designer bags from a designer you probably haven’t heard of. Yet.

I’ve got a very particular formula for selecting hot designer bags, which includes style, function, and versatility. Because as much as I love those super tiny crossbody bags with spikes, if I’m dropping a pretty penny on it, I need to be able to use it all the time. That  is why I’m very pleased to introduce you to Dagne Dover. The label was created by three women with extensive fashion and business backgrounds who were tired of having to carry around two bags for all of their stuff (here here!)–and clearly these ladies know what they are doing. The bags are classic in appearance and color,...

The new Spanx faux leather leggings, A.K.A. our newest fashion obsession

I popped over to my local lingerie shop to stock up on some new Hanky Panky thongs for fall (What, TMI? We’re all friends here!) and I spotted the new Spanx faux leather leggings on the owner. Instantly I was all What are those fabulous things you are wearing?  because they looked amazing on her. Turns out, they looked amazing on me too (if I do say so myself) and well, I’m in love. I’m probably the last person on earth to learn that Spanx makes leggings, but that’s probably because I’m not really a Spanx wearer, unlike every other woman I know. However...

The best liquid eyeliners: Steal vs Splurge

I basically consider myself a liquid eyeliner beginner. I dabbled with it years ago then walked away as I exited my twenties. Here are two I’ve really taken to, at two price points, both of which are being put to excellent use in my makeup bag these days. Hope it helps you discover the joy of the modified cats eye too. Cool travel accessory alert: The reinvention of the travel neck pillow

I don’t travel light. It’s hard to with two kids and an affinity for shoes, which is why a neck pillow is one of those useful travel accessories that never really make it into my carry-on. For the first time I’m reconsidering, now that I’ve discovered the new Sleeper Scarf, which reinvents the travel neck pillow and looks way better than those garish things in the airport gift shops. Essentially it’s an inflatable neck pillow, only smartly hidden inside an infinity scarf that you can wear any time. The Sleeper Scarf sounded a little As Seen On TV-ish to me when I first...
