Inflatable pool floats have certainly got a hipster makeover over the past few years. So why not inflatable pools?
Aha!
Chicago designer Emily Vaca has created a line of Minnidip Inflatable Pools for that very reason. She stayed away from the traditional rainbow fishies, awful circus-y polka dots, and weird smiling suns in favor of fun, less daycare-centric themes like tropical banana leaves, a sprinkle donut, and a poppy watermelon.
Not that your toddlers wouldn’t love them too, of course.
For more sophisticated options, at the NY NOW gift show this year, I got to see Emily’s two new designs, which are less kitschy: a swanky gold outline banana leaf pattern, and a stylish navy and white pattern.
Now she wants to make it abundantly clear on her website that THIS IS NOT A KIDDIE POOL AND DON’T CALL THEM KIDDIE POOLS BECAUSE, NOT KIDDIE POOLS.
But come on.
Tell me that there will be anyone more grateful for a modern, 18″ deep inflatable pool a mom who just can’t with the creepy clown faces and the smiling purple crabs.
Buy the modern LaVaca Minnidip Inflatable Pools on the Lavaca website for $70 each, with the new designs out soon.
Has anyone with this pool put a cover on it or do you drain 125 gallons everyday? I just purchased the watermelon and it’s coming tomorrow and I’d hate to have to redo all that water but I have a huge tree that sheds and a cornfield behind my house. I hoped someone can help me since I don’t see anything on the box.
If you have an issue with debris falling in a pool of any size that can’t easily be picked out or scooped out with a pool net, it might be worthwhile for you to cover with a tarp. However that will also keep the water warmer, so you may want to freshen with cool water either way. Good luck!
Thanks Liz – the tarp has helped but it’s a pain, since we have these heavy pavers (we need something a little less heavy to still keep it down). Do you empty it everyday like Emily told me? Or get most of it out? I’m getting a donut, She’s so sweet, my watermelon faded but I’m okay. I just want it pretty. I also got a small fishing net – works well. We love Emily.
For anyone who is concerned about the debris coming in the pool – cover it with a bed sheet. That way air can still get in, but the debris and bugs stay out.
Great idea!
I just ordered the 5 ft pool and want to know how to treat water? I do not want to empty water every couple days, can i use chlorine tabs to keep water from getting slimy?
I’ve been wondering about chlorine tablets, too. Have you tried them out?
