Though I love the convenience of sending e-cards to those near and dear, there is still something special about getting an honest-to-goodness โ€œrealโ€ card in the mailbox, especially on holidays like Motherโ€™s Day. Unfortunately, Iโ€™m never, ever going to be that person who remembers to get to the card store on time, so I sheepishly type a meaningful happy whatever into my Facebook browser and hope that counts.

For those of you like me, who want the convenience of an ecard with the specialness of a paper card, I think youโ€™ll totally dig this new e-card site from the smart people at Shutterfly which just launched today.

Shutterflyโ€™s brand new Treat.com custom greeting card site has more than 4,500 cards, each with loads of customization options, from photos and custom messages, or even changing the wording on the front cover. While Iโ€™ve created similar cards like this on Shutterfly or its sister site, Tiny Prints when Iโ€™m ordering dozens for the holidays, I love that I have all these options now for just a single card for one special person.

Also cool are the really wide range of designers theyโ€™ve lined up like Oh Joy!, Pinkerton Designs, eleanor, Uncooked, and even some little brand called Hallmark. All for just $2.99 including shipping.

Want to mail the card direct to your recipient? Just cover the cost of the stamp, and theyโ€™ll do that for you. Awesome.

Another nice touch: Treat.com is integrated with your Facebook birthday lists and can send reminders of upcoming birthdays from your friends list. And if you want to add a gift card, tell them the amount and and theyโ€™ll include one through Tango.com Which means your recipient can decide where theyโ€™d like to redeem it, including Amazon, iTunes, Target and Zapposโ€“or even gift it to one of several great charities.

Could this put an end to the โ€œbelated birthdayโ€ section of the card racks? It might for me. -Christina
