If your kids have a thing for color and pattern and mixing and matching in ways that you would probably never consider–such as kids do–you’ll want to take a look at the fun new fall line from Masala Baby. Their punchy, colorful line of Indian print clothes for kids has expanded exponentially from when we first discovered them, to include all kinds of tunics, leggings and more that will make boys and girls stand out from the sea of sameness at school.
And hey, funky printed leggings are super hot right now and this is another great resource for them.
While the line definitely has an Indian flair with ikats and block-printed patterns, it feels quite contemporary when you mix it with existing pieces in your kid’s wardrobe — a brightly colored tunic over solid leggings; a patterned tulle dress with high socks and combat boots; a funky chambray plaid shirt with his dark wash denim jeans. Put some of the pieces together though, and it can admittedly give off a costume vibe.
We tried out a Masala Baby colorful floral tunic with a pair of yellow patterned leggings on my daughter and I definitely thought, pajamas. However, separately? Each are keepers.
Just know everything seems to run pretty big. The size 8 tunic we tried fit my daughter’s ten-year-old friend perfectly. If you’re on the fence, size down for sure.
That said, this is the kind of stuff that doesn’t have to be entirely fitted. Roll up those sleeves, or belt the tunic and you’ll find you get several years of wear out of Masala Baby clothes, which is more than we can say for our basic kids’ jeans. It’s what I like about lines like Tea Collection and Pink Chicken so much.
And psst…don’t miss the sale section! These are fairly pricey clothes, so when I catch a chambray shirt or a funky skirt for $15, I grab it. This is the kind of stuff my kids wear year round as layering pieces.
