Raise your hand if youโve ever struggled with a baby and sleep. Okay, so 99% of you. (The rest of youโฆdonโt rub it in.) Then, just when we think we have mastered techniques to help our babies sleep longer and more peacefully, new issues arise.
In fact, itโs hard to get a handle on what to do as our infants turn into toddlers and beyond. Most baby sleep books are just that, for babies. Thankfully, Dr. Harvey Karp, a big Cool Mom Picks favorite, and author of The Happiest Baby on the Block and The Happiest Toddler on the Block, has answered our pleas (okay, cries!) for a new sleep book with longevity.
In other words, itโs not just for babies.
The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep introduces lots of new techniques that may sound strange but totally
deliver. For example, Dr. Karp introduces us to โwake to sleep.โ When
your sweet little babe is in his milk coma, Dr. Karp would like you to
wake him up from his slumber and then put him in his crib. Sounds counterintuitive, right? But it turns out when you put your infant down after he
has been asleep in your arms, he will wake up in his crib completely
disoriented and frankly, mad that heโs been ditched! Waking him up will
keep him posted on exactly what is happening.
Smart!
Dr. Karp likens that question to asking whether a person can get
addicted to pillows and blankets. In fact, babies respond so well
to white noise that it translates into blissful sleepโand even Dr. Karp
sleeps with white noise playing.
rock your world because there are few things parents appreciate more than a baby who gets a good nightโs sleep. Thank you, Dr. Karp. Once again โEva
