This time of year I start to get a little stuck. The excitement of Valentine’s Day is gone, light is still limited, the weather is frigid. It’s like I just want to imagine myself someplace — anyplace — else. So I started browsing Etsy for globes and found some outrageously wonderful options from California artist Wendy Gold that at least get my mind traveling, if not my body.
The custom globes at her shop ImagineNations Vintage Globe Art are more than just an artist with a nice hand taking a Sharpie to a scavenged globe; this is true art with the prices to show for it. But wow is it inspiring. I first discovered her amazing worth via Hatch a couple years back and I love how her collection has grown.
Check out her custom travel pushpin globes complete with pushpins and red string; globes with messages of love and inspiration; an awesome decoupage “rescue me” globe featuring superheroes; and all kinds of fabulous globes that would be perfect for kids’ and baby rooms.

Personally I prefer the styles that still maintain the original map imagery of the globe in some way instead of covering it completely like a canvas, but really there’s a lot to love here. I think her art globes make seriously special gifts for new parents, weddings and anniversaries, grads, super special teachers, or just for yourself, should you need a special new object to knock you out of mid-winter ennui.
She can even include a custom lyric — or anything, really. In fact, her globes are all made to order so the world, so to speak is in your hands.
