Wrapping paper so cute it should come with a frame.

Don’t worry, little narwhals and belugas. My kids’ sticky mitts will never touch you, much less rip you to shreds to get to the booty beneath. No, my sweet blubbery friends, you are far too precious for that. Yes, I’m talking to wrapping paper. It’s that cute. I’ll be the first to admit that I was impressed with the wrapping paper selection at the grocery store this year, as creepy Santas were overrun by sophisticated damask and Etsy-esque owls. But none of them can hold a candle to the beautiful Arctic Animals Holiday Gift Wrap Set from The Nimbus...

Three more reasons to visit Cool Mom Tech, totaling about $2200.

You know how much we love giving things away to our readers. Especially this time of year. The way we see it, mamas don’t get year-end bonuses for changing 87 diapers in the dark or getting a kid to finally eat broccoli without ketchup. And they should. Well this may be your lucky month. Pop over to Cool Mom Tech right now for two awesome giveaways going on through the weekend. We’ve got a $1200 tech giveaway courtesy of the new CBS show The Talk, including a new high-tech vaccum, an HD camcorder and a brand new printer. Plus for...

Prank Pack – The gift wrap that gives back. In laughter.

Around my place, we’ve got a house full of practical gift giving jokers. I see the old “huge box for a teeny tiny gift” trick almost every year and humor my husband each time he does it. Well this year, pay back is going to be a you know what when I stuff his Christmas present in a Prank Pack. Just imagine the box that the best most ridiculous white elephant gift comes in and that’s what Prank Pack is. Think about the look on your mother-in-law’s face when she believes you got her a Snuggie-esque Family Blankeez (ha!)....

Custom toy boxes make last minute gifts for kids easy.

My daughter is obsessed with being a dentist. Yes, just like that Elf on that Rudolph video. Of course, I’m delighted and I want to encourage her, but dentist toys are a little hard to come by. Luckily, I won’t have to scour the Internet in all my hours of free time (ha!) because Jade’s Toy Box is happy to do all the work for me. We knew that past Cool Mom Picks favorite, Jade’s Toy Box, creates amazing concept boxes filled with goodies for kids around amazing themes, but what I didn’t realize is they also will create...

Crafty gifts for kids with an artist’s eye

Kids need a little ink too. (No, not tattoos. We may be hip and fashion-forward, but we’re not crazy.) I’m talking about the kind of ink that creates together time, yields beautiful artwork, and teaches an interesting lesson. The all-in-one handy sumi-e painting kit by the award-winning art educators at Eye Can Art provides everything you need to share the art of Chinese brush painting with your kids. Even better: no needles are involved. Sumi-e, also known as Chinese brush painting, is the ancient art of capturing an image with carefully controlled brush strokes. You’ve probably seen them on the...

RightCliq by Visa – making online shopping fun, easy, and more affordable. Did we mention fun?

Since we’re all about shopping online here, we’re also about ways to make online shopping easier. And more affordable. And more fun. We’ve been eagerly following Rightcliq by Visa in the last few months since their launch and it seems it’s a dandy little tool for doing all of the above. Now that Rightcliq is a CMP sponsor (yay Rightcliq!) I took some time time to create a Wishspace and it was so cool, I thought I’d show you how it works. Also, maybe one of you will get me that Prada cruise collection leather bag at Bergdorf’s. Heh....

Lumberjack shirt 2.0

While we’ve featured numerous stylish, Swedish-inspired clothes for kids by Polarn O. Pyret on Cool Mom Picks since they came to US shores last year, this reversible plaid lumberjack shirt was my first personal experience with their clothing. And let me just say, I now totally get the hype. At first glance, you might think that it looks similar to a wool plaid shirt that you might see on bearded men wielding axes. However, this super soft 100% cotton boys lumberjack shirt is a far cry. This comfy button down snaps with ease, and reverses from the more traditional...

Our favorite dressy dresses for Christmas

I still need a dressy dress for my 3.5 year old daughter for Christmas eve, so I started diving through our archives looking for ideas. Of course there’s always the mall stores that we all know and love (or accept somewhat begrudgingly at times). But if you’re looking for something a little more special, here are a few of my fav-or-ite shops. Tea Collection has a little black Bucharest Floral Dress (above) that I’ve had my eye on all season, and it just went on sale 40% off. Score! You’ll find lots of trendy boutique brands all in one...

Calendars that hang by magic, not magnets

Now that I’ve gone through a total kitchen renovation and upgraded to a fancy schmancy stainless steel refrigerator I’ve—gasp!—lost the ability to hang my beloved paper calendar with a magnet from the front. Fortunately a cool paper-goods company has figured out a way to get a calendar to hang almost anywhere you can think of, without glue, tape, tacks or magnets. [don’t miss a sweet offer after the jump] Paperspring’s Sticky Stock Calendars are printed on a really neat, unique paper that will stick to just about any surface: My new refrigerator, the wall, the bathroom mirror, the cat. Okay, not the cat....

The coolest TV moms and the fashion they inspired: 1970’s and 1980’s

Because we are such TV junkies, we are happy to present the second in three-part series on our favorite TV moms through the ages, and the fab fashion they inspired. After all, who doesn’t love fab retro fashion? And cool moms? It’s all sponsored by XFNITY from Comcast which helps you keep up with your favorite entertainment–even the reruns. 1970s: Shirley PartridgeIn this, the decade of the Feminist mom, it was hard to pick a favorite. While we loved Maude and Ann Romano and Edith Bunker, when it comes to fashion we have to go with Shirley Partridge. Come...

The joy of women cooking

We often think of the art of food, and the art of cooking, but we don’t necessarily think about the artfulness of the cooks themselves, and their own environments. Now a new quarterly magazine from the minds behind art magazine Where Women Create celebrates the joy of cooking in a whole new way. The quarterly Where Women Cook feels like a cross between a food blog and a big inspirational scrapbook, definitely more Country Living than Metropolitan Home. Prepare for recipes for blackberry scones and strawberry pandowdy (plus a smoothie with avocado and kale, that actually sort of terrifies...

Color like an artist. Romero Britto, to be specific.

My daughter’s first finger paintings brought tears to my eyes. “My God, she’s talented!” I told my husband. I knew I was being that stereotypical overly proud parent, but her use of color was so unexpected. Really! There is something so fresh and spontaneous about kids’ artwork and that is why I like P’kolino’s new collection of arts and crafts supplies inspired by the amazing pop artist, Romero Britto. (He’s done an Absolut ad!) In fact, he might be the Keith Haring of our kids’ generation. This collaboration, aimed at inspiring kids to create art, speaks to Romero’s belief–and...

A smart gift for a style-conscious (and maybe picky) guy

It’s official. Despite best efforts, I’m in full-blown gift panic mode… but only for the men in my life. My husband, dad, and brother are all tough cookies when it comes to presents. They all have something in common, though: the love of a good dress shirt. But instead of heading to the store and picking out the same shirt that everyone else’s husband, dad, and brother will unwrap this year, I’m giving my guys gift certificates to design their own custom shirts from scratch. [don’t miss a great gift card giveaway after the jump!] The site Blank Label...

Kids bookmarks that get them drawing as well as reading

I’m still poking around etsy these days for some last-minute stocking stuffers, although in my world, 9 days til Christmas is far from last-minute. CMP fave Dana Marie Hosler of GreenStarStudio always has something nifty and new, and today is no exception. Especially if you’ve got a budding reader in the family. The color your own bookmarks are simply adorable, featuring her trademark little creatures. Arty and so fun. I know my girls would love turning them into masterpieces that they can look at every night when we return to our bookmarked page in Charlotte’s Web. If you like...

A gift for kids that doesn’t stink.

When I was little, getting useful gifts was always a huge bummer. Then again, my Great Aunt Hilda usually went for the half-price, open-package soap-and-undies combo pack at KMart. True story: One time, they even had World’s Best Lover printed across the tush. I was 8. But my kids love baths so much that they’d be overjoyed to find a bottle of eco-conscious, gentle bubble bath in their stockings. Especially if it’s by My True Nature. This new, mom-run line of just-for-kids bath products comes with a 100% all-natural guarantee and a cute line-up of characters from a teddy...

Elf hats! Elf hats!

I’m a little picky when it comes to winter hats on kids–although you’d hardly know it looking at our ridiculous hat collection. I like hats with ears but not horns. I like skull caps on girls but in more boyish colors. And I always like elf hats. The wool jersey elf hat fom Mabo Kids definitely satisfies all my criteria–cute, affordable, and with a playful shape but a sophisticated stripe. Knot it if you like that look better, but I love it long and as elf-like as possible. There’s even a cute little scarf to match. Sweet! –Liz [via...
