Enjoy these, our editors’ favorite books, music, and DVDs of the year to help keep our kids entertained and educated. And frankly, us too.

Books for little kids

Even after reading it oh, every night for a month, my youngest daughter still laughs at the ending Tuck Me In by Dean Hacohen (at top). And she’s a tough critic. –Liz

ABC Circus

ABC is for Circus gives a welcome twist to the gazillion other regular old ABC books. D is for Daredevil? Awesome. –Kristen

Books for big kids

Secret Lives of Princesses

Phillipe Lechermeir’s The Secret Lives of Princesses offers sophisticated, witty bios of alternative princesses. The kinds not-ready-for-Disney. I like that. –Liz

The Dread Crew

Given my oldest daughter’s love for blogger and mom Kate Inglis’ book The Dread Crew, it’s no surprise that we’re highly anticipating its sequel – coming soon! -Kristen

Music

Many Hands Family Music for Haiti

You can find all ten of my votes for best kids music of 2010 right here, featuring top picks from Justin Roberts, The Okee Dokee Brothers, and Recess Monkeys. And don’t forget a couple of late-2010 releases like Frances England’s Mind of My Own and Caspar Babypants’ This is Fun!Christina

Movies and DVDs for Kids

The Princess and the Frog

Surprisingly, I can’t give my vote to Sex and the City 2. (I know! You’re shocked!) Instead, I’m going with The Princess and the Frog, because I admit that any time my kids ask for an animated movie, I’m secretly hoping it will be this one and not…well, others.

Toy Story 3

My hat’s off to Toy Story 3–not just for making me bawl like a baby but for giving us a movie that our whole entire family could really truly enjoy (and cry together at). -Kristen
