Anyone else concerned about summer boredom? Because I’ve just discovered the Crayola CIY subscription box — as in, Create It Yourself — and I think it may be just the thing to keep crafty preteens entertained for a solid few hours. Especially as summer rolls around and a little quiet time indoors with the A/C may be just what’s needed.
The box delivers all the materials you need for two “premium craft projects.” After trying out one of the boxes myself, I can safely say they weren’t exaggerating.
My box included everything I needed to make lovely — and functional!–marbled trinket trays plus a wall clock, which I would actually put up in my home.
Or, at least I would have if my two year old hadn’t been such an active participant in the process. Because Crayola’s CIY Box is technically designed for kids 8 and up. (Though it was fun to have his “help.”) Other projects include stenciled totes that look really chic, plus projects involving paints, clay, yarn, embroidery floss, modeling clay and more.
The box is a bit spendy — $32.99 per box and up depending on subscription length, but you do get $50+ worth of supplies guaranteed. They also offer subscribers access to an online craft library so you can find inspiration to create more items with the supplies in the CIY box.
I think this box is a great addition to our growing list of favorite subscription box gifts for kids, whether you have a tween or teen who’s an expert crafter, or one who could use a little inspiration to put down the iPad and make something with their hands.
